Style Crush: Leather Skirt + Comfy Sweater

Leather-skirt-comfy-weater

I’m on the hunt to put together the perfect leather skirt + comfy sweater ensemble.  It’s my current style crush and one I literally think about while falling asleep at night.  I imagine the perfect fit for the skirt and the appropriate amount of cozy yet chic for the sweater and fall asleep walking my own virtual runway.  There are so many ways to wear this look and various styles of skirt and sweater that fit the bill.  I’m on the prowl for the most flattering fit and hope to share my final edit with you soon in the form of a photo spread.  In the meantime, here are the looks I’m coveting now and will soon be trying on.

1: Wilfred Free / BCBG/ Asos

2: Zara / J. Crew Factory / Ann Taylor

3. Topshop / Babaton / Asos

4. Mango / BCBG / J.Crew

Pear Shaped Pointer: Don’t get too hung up on being all matchy-matchy with your shoes and leather skirt.  In fact, go the opposite direction and purposely don’t match leathers.  I like opting for either suede or fabric shoes.  Look for something with texture or design elements.  Or, go for a nude pump since nude always works!

Dinner in the City: A Coated Denim Occasion

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Mine was filled of family time and a lot of good food.  This is going to be a busy week with Lucky FABB coming up on Thursday.  It made me inspired to talk about the perfect “work-to-dinner” look since I know I’ll be balancing both with all the great networking that is sure to happen this week.  It isn’t often that I get to enjoy dinner in the city after work, but a couple weeks ago I was able to do just that with some amazing co-workers.  We went to one of my favorite restaurants in NYC called Emporio.  Not only is the atmosphere quaint and homey, the food is outrageously delicious!

Such an occasion called for the perfect work-to-dinner look and these “jeather” leggings fit the occasion.  They have a leather look, but are incredibly soft and have the perfect amount of stretch.  Paired with a sweet blouse, the look becomes both feminine and edgy, while being professional enough for my creative work environment.  I completed the look with nude pumps and a pendant necklace.  Of course, I’m carrying my favorite new bag and standard arm party.  Here’s to a great week!

My husband told me I had to name this post “Muted” because of my color choices.  I told him I wanted to name it “My Favorite Things” since I’m wearing my favorite jeans, lipstick, flats and purse.  I guess we both win since it’s officially called “Muted,” but I got to tell you what I wanted to name it too.

So about my favorite things.  Let’s start with the lipstick.  I don’t know why it took me so long to wear lipstick but I literally didn’t wear it until I started this blog.  How did I not know that a pop of color on the lips could make you look dressed up in an instant?!  I waited way too long to try it out but I’m glad I did.  And this is my favorite kind right now – Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain.  It’s seriously the bomb (and balm, ha!)  It stays all day, doesn’t feel like you have a heavy lipstick on and is moisturizing all the time.  I love it.  I bought it in this berry color and a deeper red burgundy.  I am now a lipstick devotee.

The jeans?  James recently sent me this pair.  What can I say – OBSESSED!  As a pear shaped girl I’ve generally resigned to buying jeans way too big in the waist so they fit in the hips/thighs and just getting them tailored.  But these?  They don’t need to be taken in.  At all.  Seriously.  And the fit?  Flattering and slenderizing.  I can’t say enough about them and can’t wait to get a million more pairs and try out a bootcut too.  They are called the “High Class Skinny” and if you have hips and a small waist you should run, not walk, to get yourself a pair.  Your tailor won’t be happy but you will be.

The purse and flats are both gifts from my husband.  He’s got great taste (lucky me) and even though he’s the cheapest most frugal man I know, he does appreciate the finer things in life.  That’s why I love him.

Oh, and the top is new.  J.Crew Factory had 50% off everything in the store this weekend.  It was like Christmas came early!  It’s cute and refined and makes a weekend in the park seem chic.
