High-Low Sweater

It’s here!  My first outfit post of 2014.  It feels good to have something to share with you.  But I have to admit, it feels better not to have the nagging stress of everyday posting hanging over my head.  In fact, I haven’t really done my hair or make-up in two weeks (thanks to the holidays, working from home and the weather).  I curled my hair for the first time today and it felt like I was getting ready for prom.  But I digress…

This outfit is my new favorite.  It’s especially perfect right now because the high-low style of the sweater hides the high-high number on the scale since I pretty much dieted on Christmas cookies for two weeks straight.  I love how it masks imperfections, has great slitted cuffs and is super comfy and warm  I paired it with some ankle booties and a red lip as my only accessory.

Pear Shaped Pointer: There’s an ongoing struggle with all women I know right now and that is with where to put your hem when you wear skinny jeans and ankle boots.  Cardinal rule? Always tuck them in.  If you are lucky with some skinny calves, go for cut cuff and some fun socks peeking out.  Or, even better, make sure you pants hit at the top of your booties.  Otherwise, opt for a tuck in.  It always looks better.

sweater: aritzia (In stores but not online anymore. Similar high-low style here.) // jeans: loft // booties: dolce vita // lipstick: revlon just bitten kissable balm stain in smitten

Dark & Stormy

dark-and-stormy

It’s cold and snowy here in NYC.  Something about this weather inspires me to go monochromatic in a big way and hide out in a big gray sweater.  I love pairing gray with black for a chic dark-and-stormy look.  Here’s three ways to do it and the perfect cold-weather toppers.

The Bomb Jacket

One thing I love about this blog is that it makes me take a hard look at my closet and figure out what to wear.  The biggest benefit?  I find things I haven’t worn in years and make them new again with a little styling fun.  Take this jacket.  It’s Anna Sui for Target circa 2009 (does that make it vintage?)  I haven’t worn it but a few times and it has sat in the back of my closet for at least three years.  Thankfully, it has lasted many a closet edit and I have never given it away or sold it on eBay because I am newly obsessed with it.  You could say it’s the bomb!  Take a look in your closet and see if there’s anything you can recycle next time you’re searching for something to wear.

Pear Shaped Pointer: For ladies with hips (like me) wearing a jacket that tapers in at the waist like a bomber jacket can be a dicey endeavor.  Paired with jeans, it’s likely to cut you off in just the wrong place.  Try pairing it with a flared skirt or over a dress like I am here for a more flattering look.
