A Little Inspiration

About six months ago I was having a much-needed brunch with my girlfriends.  The “my-six-month-old-is-home-so-bring-on-the-mimosas” kind of brunch that ends with a belly ache from laughing and lots of catching up.  After that lunch, my friend, a fellow working mom, texted me a picture of herself and said “thank you for not making me have to think about what to wear today.”  Her toddler was tugging at her shirt – the same one I wore the day before along with similar jeans, flats and accessories.  It was then I realized I should revisit the idea of starting a fashion blog (or restarting the one I half-started five years ago).  And it was all because of one simple go-to outfit of mine.

Cut to now and my revised version of that outfit, fresh with a new (smaller!) chambray shirt, new (smaller!) black skinnies, a different necklace and some booties, just in time for fall.  It feels so good to have such a cute, easy, and even inspiring outfit to turn to when I don’t want to think about what to wear.  And it helps that this outfit aids others in not having to think about what to wear either!

Inspiration / Realization: Chic Moto Boots

Inspiration - Realization - moto boots

One thing on my list to buy this fall are a pair of moto-inspired boots.  Since traditional moto boots aren’t the most flattering choice for my legs, I want to get a pair like this gorgeous Rag & Bone pair.  They are both sophisticated and edgy and the perfect complement to my wardrobe.  While I’m waiting for a gift card, discount code or some act of divinity to make the Rag & Bone pair fit into my monthly shopping budget, I found some very chic options for under $200.  So acts of god aside, a pair of boots with buckles is in my future, I just know it.

Colored Denim Substitute

I love the look of colored denim and fun fall corduroy.  I’ve been taking a lot of fashion risks since starting this blog and really tried to nail this trend…but I just couldn’t do it.  Call it too many birthday cupcakes for my son’s 1st bday celebration (week), or maybe it’s the “it’s been a year since my baby was born and I’m not even close to getting on the cover of Us Weekly” blues, but I just couldn’t muster the confidence to wear those pants.

I couldn’t give up hope to nail a similar look though and I found it in this maxi skirt that was close to the color of the jeans I really wanted but provided me more coverage and confidence.   I was able to pair it with the same items I wanted to wear with the jeans – a tailored chambray, leopard belt and booties.  I was comfortable and mobile, which was great since I was running after said birthday boy all day during his party. I’m not writing off colored denim altogether.  Afterall, I did wear the heck out of my white jeans this winter.  Just maybe after I’ve worked off all the cupcakes.
