What to Wear: Holiday Dinner Party

We’re having a few friends over for dinner tomorrow night and of course I have “nothing to wear.”  I want something chic and comfortable that allows me to cook, entertain and chase after a wild toddler.  And, as is usual, it’s the end of the month and most of our budget has gone to holiday shopping so it has to also be affordable.  Enter the mall down the street from me with an H&M, Macy’s, JC Penny, Kohl’s and Forever 21.  Not sure if I’ll get a chance to go, but if I do, here’s I have my eye on to purchase for the occasion.  Which one do you like the best?

one // skirt: h&m // shirt: h&m // shoes: joan & david

two // sweater: lc lauren conrad // skirt: joe fresh // shoes: dv dolce vita

three // sweater: h&m // jeans: levi’s // necklace: forever21 // shoes: marc fisher

four // top: h&m // pants: joe fresh // shoes: report signature

Hi, this is Katie. I’m the founder and blogger of Pear Shaped Girl. We’re here at Ann Taylor today to talk about the best cocktail dresses if you have wide hips. The best dress is going to be something that’s a fit and flare style, or more A-line or an exaggerated A-line. This is a great option, because it has a scoop neck, which draws the attention up to your neck and to your clavicle, which is very flattering. Also, having something that’s sleeveless is also more flattering, especially if you have great arms that you want to accentuate. Make sure that the dress hits at the right spot on your knee and not any further down where the calf starts getting larger, or it can be less flattering. Also, if it’s too high and hits at the widest part of your thighs, that’s going to create a more chunky look. So, opt for something that brakes at the knee, that has a fitted waist, and that has an accentuated A-line or a fit and flare style.
